What are the Advantages of MMS-OBM?
MMS-OBM has two clear advantages for METRO Group private label management:
- Firstly, the steps required for developing and producing product packaging can be planned and executed more carefully.
- Secondly, the group benefits from an extensive data base which can be used to implement future projects even more efficiently.
Automated Process Management
Automated project management optimizes processes. The program automatically contracts partners and monitors if the process steps are being maintained. If the design agency were to overrun on the package artwork the system would send a reminder. If the agency were then not to reply it would receive further reminders regularly. The private label manager’s attention would then be drawn to the missed deadline. Every step in the project is transparent for involved partners and is documented.
Guaranteeing High Quality and Standard Look and Feel
MMS-OBM also determines which data and logos are needed along the process chain. The system generates the necessary information based on Product Master Data. The program ensures that all relevant data is considered. It also guarantees the same look and feel worldwide.
Learning Archive
An additional advantage of MMS-OBM: All projects and project details are stored in data bases. A media archive stores project pictures, international logos and pictograms for private label products. The artwork archive stores creative artwork designs. Every detail needed for printing is also stored. There is even a translation archive: Every text which has ever been translated into another language – such a product descriptions or package leaflets – is stored. The archive is based on a learning system. If a text for a new product is to be translated into Russian, the program first checks if there is a respective template. The program then highlights text passages which have not yet been translated into Russian and automatically contracts the translation. If a Russian translation is needed for another project, these text passages are also available. All in all these archives house a huge amount of data. This data is managed by METRO Group Information Technology GmbH (MGI) in Düsseldorf and takes up a couple of terabytes.
